Banded Birds

Banded migratory birds are often observed on Mordecai Island, especially on the North End Beach and Silt Curtains. The field readable auxiliary colored leg bands and codes are reported to the US Department of the Interior’s Patuxent Wildlife Research Center Bird Banding Laboratory.  These key sightings not only provide valuable research data for future avian resources and recommendations, but they also contribute to the conservation goals that are set by governmental organizations on a state and national level.
